Pirque

History:  The property for Camp Pirque was purchased in 1987.  Missionaries with GMSA were instrumental in getting the property ready for the first phase of construction.  The property was bare therefore, it was essential to plant trees and get water and power installed.  The first facilities on the property were a cabin, multi-purpose building and pool.  In later years, money and labor were donated by individuals in the United States to help build another cabin and maintenance shed.  Progress at the camp was slow but in recent years work has started up again

Description of Facilities:  The camp is located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in a semi-arid climate.   Chile's capital, Santiago, is just a forty minute bus ride away.  At this present time, there are two cabins with their own restroom facility.  Each cabin can accommodate 48 campers.  A multipurpose building is used for indoor games, Bible sessions and dining.  There is one soccer field and pool for outdoor activities.  The maintenance shed is used for storage and overflow cabin if needed.

Current use:  The camp is used by the local churches in the area for retreats, teen and junior camps.  The pool is often used for baptismal services which are often followed by church picnics.   During the summer months evangelistic outreaches are popular in the surrounding villages where kids are invited to come and play soccer and hear the gospel message.  Many churches or schools will rent the camp to run their own program during a weekend.  The camp is currently under the administration of a national pastor.

Future Development:  The plan is to build two more cabins, a chapel for services, and add a dining hall adjacent to the multi-purpose building.  There is much needed landscaping left to be done and renovating of the existing facilities.
